Day 41 – Lows to highs

We’ve written 42 before 41 and it’s late and we want to go to bed. For our sins, here’s a summary.

After the customary croissant and coffee we walk past Place des Vosges to the cemetery “Pere Lachaise”. It’s wonderful, very large and packed tight with, as you’d expect, old stone, often moss covered tombs. There’s wonderful cobbled paths everywhere and views out over the city to the Eiffel tower. Though the entrance map identifies famous graves, they’re not (thankfully) sign posted, and it still takes time to find them. We see the graves of Jim Morrison and Oscar Wilde.

We lunch at a little local cafe (bear cafe) just nearby then catch the metro (all back on track now post strikes) to Montmartre to watch the sun set over Paris.

We go for the best soup a l’oignon in the universe after the long walk down from Montmatre, and take our dinner at Le Compass in Rue Montorgueil, a popular and buzzing bistro in a bustling market shop street, before heading home to bed.

Walking home a twelve piece brass band is playing in the square. The drummer is steaming in his T-shirt as he keeps the beat and a lady dances with her St Bernard.
